A dominant third quarter by South Australia has seen them defeat the Netball NSW Blues by 16 goals, 67-51 in round five of the NEW IDEA Australian Netball League in Adelaide.

Neck and neck on the ladder leading into the round (Blues 4th, South Australia 5th), this match was an important one for both teams in the context of the competition with the finals only a few weeks away.

Leading the game at every change, the Blues were playing catch up from the beginning and even though they tried valiantly to take the advantage, South Australia was up to the challenge.

A 41 goal tally, the highest of any of the shooters, from South Australian and former Australian goal shooter Jane Altschwager proved a thorn in the side of the young Blues outfit.

In the end it was the third quarter that caused the most damage, with South Australia outscoring the Blues 19-8 to take a stranglehold on the match and open up a 14 goal lead heading into the final quarter.

“Tonight’s result was very disappointing. We worked hard all week on the importance of valuing possession and finding our shooters more often. But tonight we just didn’t deliver,” Netball NSW Blues coach Tracey Robinson said.

“We will now regroup and prepare for Tasmania on Sunday.”

The Netball NSW Blues will take to the court on Sunday at ETSA Park (Adelaide) against Tasmania, 10:30am (local time).
