Blue Mountains top Sutherland to win Division 2 title

A dominant Blue Mountains side claimed the Division Two title with a 60-44 win over a gallant Sutherland Shire team.

Sutherland’s full court defensive pressure was picking off Blue Mountains passes but they could not make up an early advantage given to Blue Mountains who held on to lead by three goals at the end of the first quarter, 13-10.

The Blue Mountains goal shooter started to find her way in the second quarter and the Blue Mountains front court were feeding her with confidence under the post for some easy goals. A five-goal shooting spree late in the quarter handed Blue Mountains a 30-21 lead at halftime.

Sutherland made two positional changes in the third quarter but once Blue Mountains got into an offensive rhythm they were unstoppable, taking an insurmountable 46-31 lead into the final quarter.

The Blue Mountains defensive pressure forced Sutherland into taking some risks and they matched it with the eventual champions in the final quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome, Blue Mountains victorious by 16 goals.
