Queensland Fusion have maintained their perfect start to the Australian Netball League season with a nail biting 51-50 win over defending champions Victoria Fury at the AIS Arena.
The opening quarter saw Fury start the better leading by two goals early on before the Fusion fought back to level scores at the six minute mark.
Both sides then went goal for goal until Fusion got an all important two goal break with two minutes left in the quarter thanks to some good shooting from Candice Adams.
They held that lead to end the quarter in front 14-12.
The second quarter started with the Fury coming out the stronger capitalising on some costly turnovers from the Fusion.
They soon drew level and with Bailey and Knott shooting accurately found themselves in front by two goals with four minutes left in the quarter.
Fusion through goals from Wells and Adams levelled the scores and both sides went into the half time break locked at 24-all.
Wells got the opening goal of the third quarter before Knott replied for the Fury.
Fusion then began to impose themselves on the game with their mid court of Jacqui Russell and Laura Scherian getting the upper hand on their opponents.
Fusion opened up a handy lead of seven goals with four minutes to go in the quarter and although the
Fury pulled one goal back the Fusion still led 40-34 at the half time break.
A three quarter time rev up from Fury coach Cathy Fellowes had the right affect with her side scoring the opening six goals of the third quarter to once again draw level.
Queensland then got a mini-break of two goals but the Fury kept fighting back with Bailey landing some important goals to again level scores with six minutes left on the clock.
The game continued to go right down to the wire with the Fusion getting their noses in front in the final minute to win a cliff hanger 51-50.
